Meppol - for providing me with lovely photography to style this after, and an adorable subject and respective reference!

This piece was created for Meppol of DeviantArt as a prize for winning second place in the What Makes You Smile? contest. Please visit her Deviant Art Page and check out her photography. Check out her Winning Entry! Many of her photographs were used both for style reference, color reference, and reference for the cute little lady as well!

    Oh boy… where to start?

This piece was a really difficult one for me. I am not at all accustomed to drawing or painting children, so it was really frazzling me.

I ended up using as many references as I could from *meppol’s gallery. I also wanted to give it the feeling I get and like most from her artwork, so I based it (a bit too heavily, I am ashamed to admit) on her piece, Imagine.

That was the piece that really spoke to me when I was looking at her gallery, so I really wanted to capture that feeling and send it right back at her, in my own ‘words’ so to speak.

I hope it will do ^_^

    Work in Progress: Prisoner

    WIP - Prisoner

    WIP - Prisoner

    Media:

Digital - Created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 and my Wacom Cintiq 12wx

This is just a little sci-fi/cyberpunk piece I have been working on off and on for awhile.

I am trying a new technique… I started out only in grayscale with the rough sketch, and grayscale on most of the shading on the woman. I am also working on one single layer for the most part, rather than putting every element on a separate layer.

    Tattered

    Media:

Digital - Created in Photoshop CS3 with my 4×5 Wacom Graphire4 Tablet.

    Original Size:

    3300 x 3300 - Designed to be printed at 11in x 11in at 300dpi

This was created as a prize for the ‘What Makes You Smile?’ photography contest on DeviantArt.

The figure is based heavily on the photography/modeling of the winner, Nirelleth. Her request was to do a painting based 0n her and her modeling.

Please go visit Nirelleth at her Deviant Art page and take a look at her First Place Entry!

I tried to work in as many elements from her modeling and photography as I could… corset, period clothing and hair, mask/masque, lovely fair skin, makeup…

All in all, I think it turned out very well…

I ended up using a default Photoshop texture to texturize the wall behind her, which oddly turned out to look very much like I wanted… Unfortunately I haven’t downloaded any really great textures yet on my new desktop, and I couldn’t find a really fitting one.

    The Sun Will Still Rise

    Media:

Digital - Created in Adobe Photoshop CS3 using my Wacom Cintiq 12wx and finished using my 4×5 Wacom Graphire4 at the tail end there when I had to send my Cintiq back for repairs.

This piece was referenced from a photo of myself… you can really see me in the face, if you can get past the blue skin.

I will also post some closeups of this image later, so you can see the teeny details. There is a ton of detail in her face and hair that you can’t see zoomed out like this (this image is at about 8% of full size.)

Just messing around with something light-hearted and fantasy. I do like how shimmery the skin came out, and am really digging the stained glass look of her wings. I plan on doing some more fairies eventually.

It is my intention to eventually redo the background… I kinda took the cheap way out with a space scene and photoshop lens flare XD I do love the idea of a space scene like this, but I would like to do it more justice.

I would also like to come up with a less cliche title; I want something more meaningful and suggestive of the tone of the piece. Titles are always hard for me on my more light-hearted/just-for-fun pieces. The look on her face is what made me come up with the existing title.

    Finally, My Own WordPress Theme…

    March 29th, 2009

Yes, finally. I sat down yesterday and started doing my own theme for whimsiArt.com.

After upgrading WordPress utterly hosed my gallery software installation, I decided to start over fresh, since there was barely anything up to begin with…

Here we are, fresh, new, and PRETTY.

    Some details about the layout/theme:

    • The only image used in the layout is the masthead, which I can easily replace with any other 900px by 150px image.
    • Since no images were used for the general layout, I can do a quick find and replace on the color hex-codes to match the layout to any piece of artwork I decide to feature in my masthead.
    • This page was tested using FireFox and IE7… it looks the best in FireFox (the rounded corners do not work in IE) Please let me know if you use a different browser and the page looks all wonky :)

That’s all for now… gonna go upload some artwork.
