Meppol - for providing me with lovely photography to style this after, and an adorable subject and respective reference!

This piece was created for Meppol of DeviantArt as a prize for winning second place in the What Makes You Smile? contest. Please visit her Deviant Art Page and check out her photography. Check out her Winning Entry! Many of her photographs were used both for style reference, color reference, and reference for the cute little lady as well!

    Oh boy… where to start?

This piece was a really difficult one for me. I am not at all accustomed to drawing or painting children, so it was really frazzling me.

I ended up using as many references as I could from *meppol’s gallery. I also wanted to give it the feeling I get and like most from her artwork, so I based it (a bit too heavily, I am ashamed to admit) on her piece, Imagine.

That was the piece that really spoke to me when I was looking at her gallery, so I really wanted to capture that feeling and send it right back at her, in my own ‘words’ so to speak.

I hope it will do ^_^

    Media:

Digital - Created in Photoshop CS3 with my 4×5 Wacom Graphire4 Tablet.

    Original Size:

    3300 x 3300 - Designed to be printed at 11in x 11in at 300dpi

This was created as a prize for the ‘What Makes You Smile?’ photography contest on DeviantArt.

The figure is based heavily on the photography/modeling of the winner, Nirelleth. Her request was to do a painting based 0n her and her modeling.

Please go visit Nirelleth at her Deviant Art page and take a look at her First Place Entry!

I tried to work in as many elements from her modeling and photography as I could… corset, period clothing and hair, mask/masque, lovely fair skin, makeup…

All in all, I think it turned out very well…

I ended up using a default Photoshop texture to texturize the wall behind her, which oddly turned out to look very much like I wanted… Unfortunately I haven’t downloaded any really great textures yet on my new desktop, and I couldn’t find a really fitting one.
